Chinese New Year

During the Spring Term, we were visited by two teachers of Mandarin.  They taught us how the New Year is celebrated in China.

We learnt that red is considered to be a lucky colour and that dumplings are very popular!

We learnt how to count in Chinese.  We had to use our fingers to represent the different characters.

Some of us had already heard how, in China, animals are linked to the years.  As a class we could name all of the 12 animals that make up the Chinese Zodiac!  We found our zodiac animal on the chart (dogs or pigs) and watched a cartoon to help us remember the order.

We learnt a song to wish each other a happy new year!

Happy New Year!
