Grammar and Spelling

You can complete your weekly grammar and spelling homework by logging into spag.com (use the login details in your reading diary). Remember, you can try to beat your previous scores by doing the quizes more than once!
Each week you will be tested on spellings from the Minion challenge that you are working on. Make sure you practise these at home so that you can beat all the Minions!

Here are some ways for you to practise your spellings.

  1. Spelling word memory - create a double set of word cards and play a game of Spelling Word Memory by spreading out the cards face down and then taking turns flipping two cards at a time to find a pair.
  2. Flip 4 steps - write your spellings out on word cards, then turn them over face down. Flip over a word card, look at the word, say it out loud, say the letters, then flip it back over and write the word on paper.
  3. Trace, copy, recall - fold three columns on a piece of paper and label one column 'trace', the next 'copy' and the last 'recall'. Write the word in the first column and trace the letters. Next, copy the word by looking at what you've just written. Finally, fold and hide the first two columns and recall the spelling on your own as you write the word independently.
  4. Stairsteps - write the words as if they are stairs, adding one letter at a time.
