Last Friday Zoolab came in and brought lots of interesting animals for us to explore for our topic 'Paws Claws and Whiskers.' We had the most amazing time. We talked about what the animals eat, how they live and how different they feel from each other. It was a great experience for the children to be able to hold and touch the animals! The children were very well behaved throughout and held the animals carefully. The year 1 teachers are very proud! :)
Today we have been coming up with interesting adjectives to describe things that we could have at a jungle party. This is based on our book 'Giraffes can't dance.'

Summer Term 1

This half term our new topic is 'Paws, claws and whiskers.' We will be looking into humans and animals throughout the next couple of weeks. The books we will be reading are 'Giraffe's can't dance,' 'The tiger that came to tea,' and 'Hedgehog's big day!' We will be writing invitations, character descriptions, narratives, changing a character in a story and much more. We will also be looking closely at writing features such as adjectives, nouns and verbs adding suffixes like -ing, -ed, -er and -est. In Science we will be locating where different animals live in the world and how they adapt to their habitat. We will be sorting and classifying animals into groups such as herbivores and carnivores. We will be comparing our human body to animals and how we differ but also are similar. In class we will be focusing on seasons and how this may differ around the world. In Maths we will be looking at length and height and practicing number bonds to 20. We will be revisiting throughout addition and subtraction to 20 to help children have a great number sense.

This week is STEM week and in Holly class we are learning all about birds.

Today we went on a bird watching and found some common British birds. We then created our own nests using natural resources from outside just like a bird!

This half term our Topic is on 'Memory box.' We are learning about changes over time like old toys and new toys. It would be great for parents and grandparents to talk to their child/ren about the changes over time like technology. They can't believe you didn't have an I-pad! It would be great for them to come and share what they have learnt from you!
Last week as a class we went to the Library. The Librarian read a lovely story to us. We looked at different books and found some books linked to our topic. We really enjoyed sharing books with each other!
