At Beeston Fields Primary and Nursery School the curriculum is designed to allow the children to become creative, critical thinkers, develop a wide range of knowledge and skills and to be able to play a positive and engaging part in our local community and wider society. We believe that childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time in our lives, where there are no limits to curiosity and there is a thirst for new experiences and knowledge.
Every child is recognised as a unique individual. We celebrate and welcome differences within our diverse school community. The ability to learn is underpinned by the teaching of basic skills, knowledge, concepts and values with a vision to prepare them for life beyond primary school.
We use our eight school values to promote positive attitudes to learning which reflect the values and skills needed to promote responsibility for learning and future success.
We develop independent learners through learning environments and the structure of our lessons, and develop a growth mindset and a resilient attitude to learning and life.
Learning is through an enquiry based curriculum where key questions are posed to allow the children to explore, find out about, and immerse themselves in cross curricular learning. We regularly provide enrichment opportunities to engage learning by creating exciting topic ‘hooks’, using our local environment, inviting visiting speakers, residentials, day trips and themed days.
Community involvement is an integral part of our curriculum, inviting families and visitors to facilitate learning new skills and sharing experiences, this is done through assemblies, topic final outcomes, parent workshops, Rise and Shine reading and termly homework projects. Our half termly ‘Kindness Project’, where children are able to go out into the community to provide a ‘kind’ deed, regular charity days and fundraising for our trust partner charity ‘The Rainbows Children’s Hospice’ enable children to have real empathy for others and gives them an opportunity to develop a caring and giving nature.
Every member of staff has high expectations and the belief that all our children can and will achieve their very best. This is underpinned by a relentless determination to provide learning that challenges every child to achieve their own personal next steps.
