At Beeston Fields Primary and Nursery School, our curriculum is designed to ensure the children will be well-rounded individuals who will be able to play a positive and engaging part in our local community and wider society. We believe that childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time in life and as part of this, take children on a journey of memorable learning through rich and purposeful experiences including: visitors, day trips and themed days.
Fluency in the core subjects, with reading and vocabulary at the heart, enables access to the full curriculum and is therefore integral to our approach. Our enquiry based curriculum (through drivers such as History, Geography and Science) poses questions for the children to explore and ensures coverage, progression and retention of transferrable knowledge and skills.
Each enquiry launches with a hook day to offer children a memorable experience and/or involve members of the local community (as having visitors to facilitate learning of new skills or to share their experiences is an integral part of our curriculum). If visitors aren’t involved on the hook day, they most definitely will be at another point within the enquiry. From this point, all knowledge and skills have been mapped out across the different year groups so children will gain progressive key knowledge as they move up through school, and all learning is tailored to be relevant and current to the children. Additionally, the enquiry leads to an authentic outcome where children are given the opportunity to reflect on and present their learning in a way that is meaningful to them, empowering the children to be aspirational and strive for excellence.
