Curriculum Overview

At Beeston Fields, we use termly topics to engage our children with their learning. Each topic has a ‘launch’ and has a planned ‘final outcome’ which we invite parents and carers to be part of. We also aim to use trips, visitors and workshops in school. If you would like to find out more about the schools curriculum in a particular area or over all please speak to your child's class teacher.

There are four other strands weaving through the Beeston Field's curriculum, which are;

Keeping safe

Keeping safe includes lessons and assemblies on various aspects including bullying, stranger danger, road safety and fire safety.

Cultural Awareness

We have a diverse school community and welcome children from many different countries and faiths. We spend time learning about different faiths and finding out what life is like in different countries and communities. This work also links closely with our RE curriculum which is the Nottinghamshire Agreed Syllabus.

British Values

We feel that is it important to instill the British Values of mutual respect, fairness, justice, democracy, individual liberty and the tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. The children learn about each of these values, and behaviour in school is expected to reflect these. Please see the 'British Values Development Opportunities' document below.

This is the Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development of the children in our school. This is not a separate subject that is taught explicitly but an aspect of learning that should be present in lessons and behaviour in school. Some lessons lend themselves more easily to direct SMSC development such as PSHE, Art, Music and RE. We also aim to develop SMSC through worship, behaviour expectations and our attitudes in school.

Alongside this, our whole school values should be incorporated into each topic the children cover in order for the children to further develop and deepen their understanding of them. They are:

  • Creativity
  • Aspiration
  • Perseverance
  • Diversity
  • Enjoyment
  • Pride
  • Confidence
  • Responsibility
  • Diversity
