Reading Lesson

We have 2 reading lessons today and no writing lesson.

(Because of this and the extra reading lesson added last week, so that we had a chance to answer the your own questions, the dates on the videos don't reflect today's day, but both are for today)

Lesson 1: Today you will be reciprocal reading pages 6 and 7 from our Ancient Greeks text.

Reciprocal read means we follow this process -

1. Make predictions before we read (making a sense guess about what the text is about).

2. Clarify words as we read we the text (work out the meaning of words we don't know).

3. Ask questions after we have read a passage (ask questions to understand the text more).

4. Summarise what we have read (sum up the main point).

You can watch the video and read along with Miss Gutteridge, or use this process and read it by yourself. Keep a list of the words you clarified, and will use them in our second lesson when we make our own glossary.

Lesson 2: Now that we have read pages 6 & 7, we need to answer some reading comprehension questions.

Remember these simple instructions -

1. Read the question carefully (Which subheading do you need to go to? How many answers do you need?)

2. Choose a key word in the question to scan for.

3. Scan for your key word and highlight it (or circle it if you don't have a highlighter)

4. Read the whole sentence to check it is the answer to the question.

5. Write the answer down.
