Friday (03.04.20)

Start by marking your answers from yesterday. If there are any answers you’re unsure about, email us on Purple Mash.

1.   What is strange about Camp Green Lake?

It’s called Camp Green Lake and it has no lake,  which makes the place seem strange.

2.   Why does no one live in the town of Green Lake anymore?

The lake dried up, as did the town, so everyone left. I know this because in the text it states ‘the town shriveled and dried up’. This shows that the lake drying up meant that the town failed and people left.

3.   What do you think is meant by ‘the warden owns the shade’?

I think it means that the warden is the most powerful person around (or at least they think they are) as the warden is the only one who allowed the have some shade in the hammocks.

4.    Why do you think Stanley and his family just pretended he was going to a nice camp?

They were trying to make the whole thing seem normal, when in reality it wasn’t at all. Stanley hadn’t been to camp before, so it was the perfect excuse to go with. Furthermore, it makes it seem like he’s not being punished at all, as he believes that he didn’t commit a crime.

5.    How did Stanley feel when he got to Camp Green Lake?

I think that Stanley was obviously disappointed in what lay before him. I know this because in the text it states ‘He couldn’t see a lake. And hardly anything was green.’ This shows that the he feels like the camp isn’t going to be like ‘Camp Fun, it will be quite the opposite.

Then, complete the summarising questions.

Answers will be posted tomorrow.
