Maths
The children in Oak class take part in a daily Maths lesson and you can find out which areas we'll be covering below.
Also, each Friday the children take part in a weekly Solve It lesson which is problem solving based and allows the children to experiment with different methods to help them to find a solution to the question posed.
The children also take part in a daily times tables lesson where they complete fun, educational actvities in order to help them to learn their times tables up to 12 x 12 off by heart.
Autumn 1
We'll start the year off by spending the first few weeks focusing on place value activities to ensure that the children are secure in the basics of reading and writing numbers, counting forwards and backwards, estimating and approximating, ordering and comparing numbers as well as checking their answers. After that we'll move on to securing mental and written addition and subtraction strategies.
Autumn 2
After half term, we'll focus on developing mental and written multiplication and division strategies. And to finish the term, we'll spend some time learning about fractions, decimals and percentages and their relationships to each other
Spring
In the Spring term, we're going to be spending the majority of the term focusing on fractions and decimals. We'll also learn about calculating areas and telling the time on both digital and analogue clocks. We will also continue to learn our times tables up to 12 x 12.
Summer
In Maths we will spend the first half-term learning all about Geometry. We will be learning about angles, shape and symmetry, and position and direction. This will include lots of practical and hands-on learning! During the final half-term in Maths, we will be completing our last maths topic – statistics. We will then spend the rest of the year revisiting important areas such as addition & subtraction, multiplication & division, fractions & decimals, time and area & perimeter.
