Do hard times develop strength?
We will be looking at these areas of history:
How did the Great Fire of London develop strength?
When studying the Great Fire of London, the children will learn what, when and who caused the fire as well as the importance of using different historic sources to gather information. We will be putting ourselves into the shoes of a child during the Great Fire of London when we write diary entries and take on the role of a journalist reporting on the event. We can’t wait for the children to share these with you. We will also be creating pieces of art reflecting the historic London landscape.
How did Nightingale, Seacole and Cavell show strength?
We will then be focussing on three amazing women who have revolutionised the nursing profession. We will be learning about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole, seeing the strength they demonstrated during the Crimean War. As well as these two significant women we will be learning about Edith Cavell, an incredible World War 1 nurse, who demonstrated her strength through nothing but kindness to all. We will be writing a biography about one of these incredible women to celebrate their achievements.
Design and Technology
To demonstrate strength in current times, as part of their design and technology learning, the children will be taking part in a reverse advent calendar, designing and making toys to give to others during hard times.
