RE
At Beeston Fields Flying High Academy we follow the Nottinghamshire Agreed Syllabus for teaching RE. This has progressive content that builds year upon year to ensure pupils gain a depth of understanding about the religions they have studied. Pupils are given the time and skills to discuss religious and other worldviews and to compare and contrast those with each other and with their own views and beliefs. Pupils are taught how to respectfully engage in conversation about religious and non-religious worldviews and to consider what they could learn from the religions they have studied.
When pupils are presented with knowledge in RE lessons, they are told that this is what most/many/some people of that religion believe.
At Beeston Fields, some year groups use RE to enhance their enquiry based learning. Where RE is not taught as an enhancer, it is taught discretely. Where RE is taught discretely for the whole term, it is taught in an enquiry style, and pupils work to be able to answer a religious enquiry question drawing upon what they have learnt and thought about throughout the term.
All year groups teach RE for an hour a week, or the equivalent of this.
Pupils at Beeston Fields enjoy their RE lessons and comment that they like to know more about what their friends believe and that they like to consider how even though they may have a different religion or no religion, they can still find common ground with those from other religions.
