Maths
Mathematics teaches us how to make sense of the world around us through developing a child’s ability to calculate, to reason and to solve problems. It enables children to understand and appreciate relationships and pattern in both number and space in their everyday lives. At Beeston Fields, we have moved towards the ‘mastery’ style of teaching Maths. To support this, we use the ‘Maths – No Problem!’ scheme of work in years 1-6. In Foundation Stage, the Early Learning Goals for Maths are met through a similarly ‘mastery’ style approach using materials from the White Rose Maths Hub.
As well as their daily Maths session, children also access daily fluency sessions which work on the arithmetic skills needed for their age group. We also use Times Tables Rockstars in Years 3-6 in order to practise the key skill of times tables. Children can also access this website at home.
